Wrong question:
D has to be 1, which makes A 0 ans S 9. Again N+E=N which makes E=0, now both A and E cannot be 0.

6 give nos to each letter and add all of them... d=4,a=1,r=18=1+8=9,w=23=2+3=5,i=9,n=14=1+4=5 ... total=4+1+9+5+9+5=6

DARWIN is longer than both other numbers, so D = 1

Since only a "carry" is added to the "S", A is either 0 or 1. It can't be 1 because D already is, so A=0

Since S + carry = 10, and carry cannot be greater than 1, S must be 9.

This is where I get stuck, but a conclusion can be reached. If RWIN are there maximum possible values, they are 8,7,6,5. So, the maximum possible sum is:

1 + 0 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 27
