let required number=x
total minutes between 3o'clock and 6o' clock =180
x+50+4x=180
5x+50=180
5x=130
x=26

answer is 26 mins.

according to the question
The equation is 4x+50+x = 180
now the interval of time between 3 am and 6 am is 180 minutes
That interval is equal to 50 minutes plus five intervals of unknown size,
four of them past 3 am and one of them short of 6 am.

simple way
The time is 5:34.
It is 26 minutes to 6:00.
Fifty minutes ago it was 4:44 which is 104 minutes past 3:00

so 26 x 4 = 104

so the answer is 26 min
