suppose the fathers age=x
age of elder son is=(1/4)x
age of younger is =(1/5)x
according to question
the age difference btwn younger and father is 32
so x-(1/5)x=32
x=40years
so father is 40 yrs old

Age difference between father and younger son will always be '32' years as at a time when the elder son lived to three times his present age,

let age of elder and younger be L and Y.

the present age conditions are F(fathers age) = 4L and F = 5Y.----(i)

when elder lived three times i.e L = 3L which is L has grown 2L from present age.

now Fathers age exceed younger by 32 ..can be written as

F + 2L = (Y + 2L) + 32 , when elder grows 2L then father and younger as grow the same.

from (i) L = F/4 and Y = F/5.

substitute in the above equation making all into F terms .

we get F=40 on solving
