Freight train travel at the speed = 10.67 km/hr

Speed of the passenger train = 16 km/hr
Let the speed of the freight train = X km/hr

Passenger train Overtakes Freight train after 4hrs means,

At the time Freight train travel 6hrs. (i.e, 2hr+4hr = 6hrs)

Distance traveled by freight train in 6hrs = Distance traveled by passenger train in 4hrs

X *6hrs=16 *4hrs
6X = 64

X = 10.67 km/hr

D=S*T=16*4=64
PASSAGER TRAIN OVERTAKES FR.TRAIN AFTER 4 HOURS AND IT LEAVES THE PLATFORM AFTER 2 HOURS OF FR. TRAIN = 6 HOUS

NOW Avg speed of fr. tarin =s=d/t=64/6=10.67

If x kmph is speed of freight train
4*(16-x) = 2x
6x= 64
x= 64/6 = 32/3 kmph

check
distance travelled by freight train in 6 hr = distance travelled by passenger train in 4 hrs

The average speed of freight train is 10.66
Passenger train travel in 4 hour = 16*4 = 64
Freight train travel in 6 hour = 10.66*6 = 63.96

total time taken by passenger train is 4 hours with 16 km/hr to cross the freight train which is 4 * 16 = 64 kms ...

the same distance the frieght train covers in 2 + 4 hours because it has started 2 hrs early ..which is 6 hrs in total now speed can be calculated by 64/16 = 10.67..

Let the Distance Covered by Freight train = Passenger Train = D kms

Speed of Passenger Train = 60 km/hr

Time taken by Passenger Train to Travel distance D = 4 Hrs

Time taken by Freight Train to Travel Distance D = ( 4 + 2 ) = 6 Hrs

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance Freight = Speed Freight × Time Freight ........ (i)

Distance Passenger = Speed Passenger × Time Passenger ........ (ii)

Distance Freight = Distance Passenger

⇒ Speed Freight × Time Freight = Speed Passenger × Time Passenger

⇒ Speed Freight × 6 = 60 × 4

⇒ Speed Freight = 40 km/hr

Distance travelled by Passenger train=16*4=64km
so,time taken by freight train=4+2=6hr
then, avg speed of freight train=64/6=10.67km/hr

speed of the freight train be x km/hr
speed of the passenger train is 16 km/hr
Now the passenger train overtakes the freight train after 4 hrs, so the freight train by this time would have travelled for 6 hrs(2hrs+4hrs).
therefore distance travelled by freight train in 6hrs = distance travelled by passenger train in 4hrs
x*6=16*4
6x=64

x=10.67 km/hr
