suppose cost price is x
so selling price is 14x/10
now after 10% discount selling price is 126x/100
total selling price is 72*126x/100
72*126x/100=13608
x=150
so the cost price per shirt is 150.

according to given condition (c.p(140/100))(90/100)=189
where one shirt cost he finally selled 13608/72=189
so c.p=150

suppose cost price=100
then marked price is 40% above the cost price.so marked price=100*140/100=140
then he had given a discount of 10% so selling price=140*90/100=126.
selling price of one shirt=13608/72=189.
but our calculated selling price when cost price is 100=126
so 126*x=189
x=189/126=3/2.
therefore cost price=100*3/2=50*3=150.
