best solution i can give for this kind of problems is...

remember Tim and elan are always traveling in 2:1 ratio..
and total distance is 90km
tim ratio=2
total ratio= 2+1=3
formula = total distance*(tim ratio/ sum of total ratios)
so answer is 90*(2/3)=60

suppose if you want elan's distance ,it is 90*(1/3)=30

ans is B(ie) 60
1st hour=tim 10kmph elan 5 the dist will be 90-15=75
2nd hr=tim->20kmph & elan->10 dist=75-30=45
3rd hr =tim->40 & elan->20..the totl dist for 3rd hr is 60.but we need only 45km to meet ..so we consider only 45mins instead of 3rd hr..
In 45mins =>tim ->30 & elan->15
totl dist travld by tim is 10+20+30=60

Speed is directly proportional to Distance speed is in the ratio 10:5.Even the speed is doubled for every one hour ratio remains constant.so distance of Tim travel is 2/3*90=60

let tim covered the distance by speed 10kmph and elen covered by 5kmph
the total relative speed is 10+5=15kmph
time=distance/speed
time=90/15
time=6 hour
they will meet in 6 hours
tim covered the distance in 6 hours is=10*6=60km
ANSWER= B

ans is 60..
calculate by both side hour by hour .. keep in mind that after every hour speed will b doubled ...
so ans will b 60...
if u wil try to eliminate option n get ans u can also do that ..
in that u will get 55 and 45 for tim and elan respectively but in ans approx u can say 60 bcz before that he wil meet him

tim 10+20=30km in 2 hr
elan 5+10=15 in 2 hr
total 45 km they have coverd. remaining 45 km
45/(40+20)=3/4 hr
(3/4)hr*40km/hr=30km
so they meet after 30 km in remaining 45 km
but jim has already travelled 30 km so 30+30=60km jim has travelled when they meet
