Answer is : while

Their proper usage shall be as follows :

Than : He is better acquainted with the place than me. (He is more acquainted than me)
While : He is better acquainted with the place while I am. (He is some what acquainted while I am more)

Positive : Comparative : Superlative [adjectives we all are dealt with], here they are :
Good : Better : Best

Insight view could be : He is better acquainted with the place, while I am best acquainted.

Which means : He is just acquainted, while I am the best acquainted one.
