Answer: b) 4 : 1

D / v1 = (3/8) x / v2 ... ( 1 )

( D + x ) / v1 = (5/8) x / v2
=> D / v1 = (5/8) x / v2 - x / v1 ... ( 2 )

From equns. ( 1 ) and ( 2 ),

(3/8) x /v2 = (5/8) x / v2 - x / v1
=> 3 / (8v2) = 5 (8v2) - 1/ v1
=> 1 / v1 = ( 5/8 - 3/8) / v2
=> 4v2 = v1
hence, answer will be 4:1

Given two points of the tunnel A and B
let us consider the distance between them is 8d
given cat is at the distance 3d from th point A the left over distance to B is 5d
let the train speed is T and cat speed is C
if cat moves towards A then (T+C)*3d is the time taken to meet
if it travels towards B then (T-C)*8d is the time taken to meet
hence on solving above we get T/C is 4/1
ans 4/1.
