(x*y)/(x=y)
(2*8)/(2+8)
=16/10=1.6

Let us call that height x; the horizontal distance form this intersection point to the 2 m pole a; and the horizontal distance to the 8 m pole b. Just skecth it on paper and notice the similarity of triangles, such that:
(a+b)/2 = b/x , and
(a+b)/8 = a/x
Now, if we add both sides:
5(a+b)/8 = (a+b)/x
Hence, x=8/5=1.6m.

1.6.....using the concepts of similarity of triangles that if the triangles are similar then their sides are proportional...
x/2=b/(a+b)
=>(a+b)/2=b/x............(1)
x/8=a/(a+b)
=>(a+b)/8=a/x...........(2)
adding (1) & (2) we get
x=1.6 which is the height of their intersection of the top of each poles to bottom of other pole....
