If max marks are x, then

0.2x+30 = 0.32x - 42
0.12x = 72
x= 600
passing marks = 120+30=150
% of passing marks = 100*150/600= 25%

1st person got 20% and failed by 30.
2nd person got 32% and got 42 more marks than required.
=>32%-20%=30+42.
=>12%72.
if 12%=72
100%=?
cross multiply them, we get, 100=600 marks.
=>20% of 600 is 120
He needs 30 more marks to pass.so 120+30=150 is the marks need.
150 is 25% of 600.
so 25% is the answer .

20% of x+30=pass
32%of x=20% of x+30+42
12%of x=72
then x=600 then
30=(x/100) * (600) the value is 5% finally 20%+5%=25%

suppose maximum marks are x,
failed candidate got 20%marks in exam and gets 30 marks less than passing marks
passed candidate gets 32% marks and gets 42 marks more than min marks
so,
0.2x + 30 (Passing Marks)
0.32x - 42 (Passing Marks)
so,
0.2x + 30 = 0.32x - 42
0.12x = 72
x = 600
passing marks : 0.12 (600) + 30 =150
passing % = (100*150)/600 = 25%

let total marks be x
now student A got 20% x= x/5
now 30+x/5 = passing marks
student B got 32%x = pm +42

on solving we get total marks as 600
then passing marks = 150
which is 25% of 600.
