Mr. Das has 3 sons whose ages are respectively a, b, c. The grandfather has bought a cycle for the eldest son, mother has bought a bag for the youngest one which cost Rs. 150/. The sum of two age of the elder son and one son is 15. The difference of the age of sons is 3 & 2. Then what of the age of the elder son?

Solution

In this question there is an additional information "The grandfather has bought a cycle for the eldest son, mother has bought a bag for the youngest one which cost Rs. 150/." which seems absurd, but there is a hidden info of elder, eldest and youngest son in it.
given
eldest son age = a
elder son age = b
youngest son age = c
according to given conditions
b+a = 15 OR b+c=15
and
a-b = 3, b-c = 2, OR a-b = 2, b-c = 3
there are 4 combination
1) a+b = 15, a-b = 3, b-c = 2 (9,6,4)
2) a+b = 15, a-b = 2, b-c = 3 (8.5,6.5,3.5)
3) b+c = 15, a-b = 3, b-c = 2 (11.5,8.5,6.5)
4) b+c = 15, a-b = 2, b-c = 3 (11,9,6)

a-b=3
b-c=2
add these two we get------>a-c=5........(1)
either a+b=15......(2a)
or a+c=15........(2b)

using equation (1) and (2b) we get as....

a=10
b=7
c=5

as per given data, x+y=15
x-y=3
x-y-z=2(solvin 1st & 2nd giv 9,6 each for x and y)
nowsub these 2 in 3rd eqn gives z=1. Thus max of these is 9. hence 9 is te ans!!

ans is 6........consider the age diff of eldest and middle is 3 and v consider sum of elder and middle as 15 den by simultaneous eqn vil get elder as 6

let the elder son age is X, and the youngest one is Z,
since
X+Z=15,
&
X-Y=3
&
Y-Z=2

solving above 3eq we get X=10 ans

a=x+3 age year
b=x year
c=x-2 year
a+b=15
x=6 so age of elder son=6 year
