If 1000 ml of spirit purchased for Rs 1000 is sold at cost price for making profit of 12.5% after mixing water , then
SP of mixture having 1000 ml of spirit = Rs 1125
when SP of mixture and CP of pure spirit are same, then
1125 ml of mixture contains 125 ml of water.
ratio of water and spirit = 125/1000 = 1/8

so 1 ltr of water should be mixed with 8 ltr of spirit to get a mixture of 9 ltrs to sell mixture at CP to get profit of 12.5%.

Ans 1/8
If the total quantity=100
Actual quantity of spirit to be sold to get 12.5% gain=100*100/112.5=800/9
So the water =100-(800/9)=100/9
Proportion of water:spirit =100/9 : 800/9= 1:8

Let cost price=x

Selling price=1.125x

Price of water=0.125x

Ratio=x:125x =0.125x/x=1/8=1:8
