a's position is 18 then 1-A-19-20-21-22-23-B-25+9 = 34

It is simple addition: 18 + 11 + 5 = 34.
How?
A is 18th from the front, so, there are 18 persons from 1 to A.
B is 11th from the back, so there are 11 persons from 1 to B (counting backwards).
There are 5 persons standing between them. Just adding three numbers do the trick.

ans is both 34 && 22
when A stands infront of B then possible answer is 34(18+5+11)
when B stands infront of A then possible answer is 22(18-7+11)

A is 18 from the top and B is 11 from bottom. there are 5 persons standing between A and B
Given data means 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12(B) 13 14 15 16 17 18(A) 19 20 21 22
Assume 1 is top ,18 th positon is A..
From back(bottom) onwards 11 position is B
So 12 persons are standing in the queue.

Since we don't know whether A is ahead of B or behind B.
Ans is coming as 34 (If A is ahead of B) or 22(If A is behind B).
