ans=(a)256
since there are total of 8 rows and columns which starts with black n white respectively.so no. of ways to choose a black square n a white square is 4C1 each.and out of 16 rows n columns we can select either a row or column in 16C1 ways.thus, total no. of ways= 16C1*4C1*4C1=256
