Let jake speed is j km/hr and of paul is p km/hr.

j+p =7 km/hr ......(i)
&
24/j +24/p = 14 hrs......(ii)
on putting value of eq. (i) in eq. (ii)
we get,
j*p = 12 km/hr
so, possible value for j is 4 km/hr and p is 3 km/hr or vice -versa.
Since, j is faster.
Hence, speed of j is 4 km/hr.

Let the speed of jake b x and paul be y
then x+y=7
&
24/x+24/y=14
On solving as jake = 4 as it is faster and paul is 3

let jake speed be x, then paul's speed = (7-x)
so, (24/x)+(24/(7-x)) =14
therefore x=4

each walk =24km;
sum of speed =j+p=7km/hr
j=p-7;
now sum of time =14hr;
24/j+24/p=14;
24((j+p)/jp)=14;
24*7=14jp {bcoz j+p=7};
12=jp;
12=j(j-7);
j^2-7j-12=0;
j^2-4j-3j-12=0;
j(j-4)-3(j-4)=0;
(j-4)(j-3)=0;
j=3 or 4 but if j=3 thenp=4 which is not possible
so j=4 ans....

jakes speed=x
paul speed =y

x+y=7
so speed can b in the ratio
1:6 or 6:1
2:5 or 5:2
4:3 or 3:4
total time taken = let us take 1:6 as 1st case
so 24/1+24/6= 29 which is not equal to the total time given
so try all options same way, u will get 4:3 appropriate
hence speed of jake is 4 km/h
