As the diamond varies its value in squere.. After when it has broken its value is,
3^2+2^2=13.
Before it has broken its value was
(2+3)^2=5^2=25.
Percentage loss is ((25-13)/25)*100=48%

ratio: 2:3
total value:5
2^2+3^2=5^2
13=25
loss=(diff/true value)*100
=(12/25)*100
=48%

Ans :- 48%

Solution:-

Let the weight of diamond be 'W'
V is proportional to W^2

Now diamond breaks into weight ratio of 2:3
That is 2x + 3x = W
x= W/5

2x = 2/5W
3x = 3/5W

The value of new diamond = 4/25 W^2 + 9/25 W^2
= 13/25 W^2
Loss percentage in value = (W^2 - 13/25W^2) * 100/W^2
= (12/25) * 100
= 12*4
= 48%

let weight be x
then value will b proportional to x^2.
after breaking te
he weights are 2y and 3y =(2y+3y=5y)
so value after braeking=5y^2=25y^2.
cumulatively =2y^2+3y^2=13y^2
therefore (loss=(25y^2-13y^2)/25y^2))*100)= 48%

As already given that diamond is broken intwo two pieces in ratio 2:3.
so.let weight of big diamond be 5,then broken diamond will be 2 and 3 respectively.
let value be x.
then x=k*25 for bigger diamond.
broken diamond be...y=k*4
z=k*9
so total price 13k..
hence loss%=25k-13k/25k=12/25*100=48%

For eg let us assume the weight of diamond is 10g and its value is 10*10=100
if diamond is broken and such that its weight is in the ratio 2:3 then 4:6 and its value is 4^2 + 6^2= 16+36 =52 so the loss percentage is 48%.

x=y^2
after broken, weight of two pieces is 2/5(y),3/5(y)
value of diamond is (4/25(y^2)+9/25(y^2))=13/25(y^2)
y^2-(13/25(y^2))=12/25(y^2)
loss=12/25=48%
