Actually u wrote the que. wrong. 225 Rs was not given.
s=8000
s=8(2*275+15d)
by solving
d=30
so 1st team prize=275+(15*30)=725

My ans is 100% correct

Ans is 725
Use AP sum formula
S=n/2(a+l)
Here,S=8000
n=16,l=275 and we have to find a
Putting values we get a=725

No Stalin, rohit was correct. Normally people are think this sum is wrong but it have answer by using formulae.

@ronit, if the first prize was 725, how could the whole sum will result to 8000.. try with logical concepts than formulae

sn=a/2{2a+(n-1)d}

@SHILPA the value 8 comes from (n/2).
since n=16(total no of teams)..then apply the summation formulae of AP SERIES.

We have,

The total sum of prize money to be awarded among 16 teams,

=
R
s
.
8000
and

the prize money awarded to the last place team i.e.,
a16= 275.



As, the award increases by the same amount for successive finishing places.

So, the prize money are in A.P.
S16= 8000.
16/2(a + a16) = 8000.
8( a + 275) = 8000
a + 275 = 8000/8
a = 1000 - 275
a = 725

725 is ans.
