paul -peter=48
peter-charles=48
so finally dif b/w paul and charles =96
given paul got 8% votes more than charles.
8%=96
100%=1200
ans:1200

Let votes of Charles be x, then
Votes of Peter=x+48
Votes of Paul=48+Votes of Peter=48+(x+48)=x+96
% difference of votes of Paul and Charles=[(x+96)-x]*100/x=8
=> x=1200
So, the votes of Charles=1200, Peter=1248, Paul=1296
Hence total votes polled=1200+1248+1296=3744
