if x no. of question is wrong and y no. of question is correct then
-5*x+8*y=0 and x+y=26
by solving we get
x=16 & y=10

Let x questions are correct=>26-x questions are wrong
From question
=>8x-(26-x)*5=0
=>13x=130
=>x=10

If the score was zero then it means the marks of correct questions = marks of incorrect questions.
Since correct questions will be awarded 8.so if out of 26 questiions 10 were correct , then
marks for correct 10 questions = 10*8= 80
For each incorrect question 5 marks will be deducted ,
and we know for a total zero incorrect marks = correct marks
so he attempted 16 incorrect questions.
because 16*5 =80
so his net score will be zero

so correct answers=(26-x)
we get the eqn: 8(26-x)-5x=0; so x=26, correct answers = 26-x = 10

no. of questions answered wrong are (26-x),awarded score is -5*(26-x)
=>[8*x]-[5*(26-x)]=0,
=>13*x=26*5,
=>x=10.

as 8 points were given for each right answer so,8*x-5*(26-x)=0
=>8x+5x=130 ,x=10 ans
-ve sign is taken as marks is deducted

Let wrong questions be y and correct ques be x
so 8x-5y=0.....eq(1)
also x+y=26 (given)
=>x=26-y.....eq(2)

from eq(1) and eq(2)
wrong,y=16
correct,x=10

since the final score was zero ,,both correct answer and wrong answer should cancel each other ,so it will be a common multiple between 5 and 8,,there will 4 options 5(5*8=40),10(10*8=80),15(15*8=120),20(20*8=160),,if 5 answer are correct then wrong answers will not be balanced(21*5=105),,if 10 answers are correct then wrong answers will tally the score to zero(16*5=80) (80-80=0) so the no. of correct answers are 10

let x be correct ans so 26-x is the wrong ans
8*x- (26-x)*5=0
=>8*x+5*x=130
x=130/13
x=10

so [208-(-130)]/26 = 13

go from 1st option.....if 10 were correct then 16 must be wrong (26-10)....
as per given marks is 0......we conclude that 10*8-16*5=0....so option a...

5 points are deducted if the question is wrong = (-5) x

8 points are awarded if the question is correct = 8y

8y+ (-5x) = 0

8y = 5x

y= 5x8
sub 'y' in x + y = 26

x= 16, y = 10 Hence 10 are correct

Let x be number of questions answered correctly
then 26-x will be number of questions answered wrongly
then,
8*x-5*(26-x)=0 (since the score was zero we equate it to zero)
by solving the above equation we get x value as 10
