Let Max marks be x
then passing marks are .2x+5=.3x-20
=>x=250
and passing marks are .2*250+5=55 Answer.

let the total marks =x
then pass marks =20% of x +5
or pass marks = 30% of x -20
equating above two we get x=250
and pass marks = 55
so the required % for passing = 22%

Ans : 22%
Lets solve it logically
the difference in there two condition is 10% of maximum marks and due to this difference cause 25 mark [ in 20% (-5) and in 30% (+20)]
so 10% of max is 25 => max is 250 and
so the 5 mark is 2 % of 250
hence passing % will be (20+2)% = 22%

let the total marks be Y
let the passing marks be X
then from 1st case- 20% of Y=X-5
or (20/100)Y=X-5 i.e. Y=5X-25
2nd case- (30/100)Y=X=20
i.e. 3Y=10X+200
on solving the above 2 linear equations, we get Y=250 and X=55
