let c.p of 12 candle=x
in case of loss---
a%=(x-10)*100/x-----------(2)
in case of profit---
a%=(12-x)*100/x----------(1)
equating eqn(1)and (2) we got
x=11
and hence a=100/11=9.090

Now for Profit ((S.P-C.P)/C.P)*100)
and in Loss ((C.P-S.P)/C.P)*100)
in above problem 10$ is s.p in case of loss and 12$ is s.p in case of profit
and as we can see loss% and profit% are equal then we can write
(x-10)=(12-x)...(here 100 and C.P will get cancel)
x=11
put x=11 in any equation and you ll get 100/11

in case of loss
S.P. (10/12)/C.P. (x) = (100-a)/100..................(1)
in case of profit
S.P. (12/12)/C.P. (x) = (100+a)/100..................(2)

equation (1)/(2)....
10/12= (100-a)/(100+a):
a=9.09

and the solution is 100/11

SOLUTION
10*(100+a)/12 = (100-a) ; a= 100/11=9.09
