let total number of steps be x
when Victor takes 10 steps:
distance/steps remaining = (x-10), time = 40 sec, speed = (x-10)/40
when Victor takes 20 steps:
distance/steps remaining = (x-20), time = 25 sec, speed = (x-20)/25
but speed of escalator won't change, so:
(x-10)/40 = (x-20)/25
=> x = 36.667 = 36 steps

@APOORVA DESHPANDE..........in x-10/40=x-20/25, x will be cancel out so how u can get the value of x????

10 steps climb- 40 sec to reach
20 steps climb- 25 sec to reach
subtract the above 2 equations gives:
10 steps in 15 sec
x sec for 1 step
x=15/10= 1.5 sec
so 1 step = 1.5 sec
10 steps+(40/1.5)= 36
