if initially the price of sugar was Rs.100, so now it reached to Rs.120. So, a house-wife can procure only 5/6kg of sugar in Rs.100. Hence, the consumption would be reduced by 16.67%

Let x kg be the initial consumption.. Now the consumption should be reduced by 5/6...
Reduction = x - (5x/6) = x/6... % reduction = (1/6)*100= 16.67(answer)...

the raised price of sugar=125/100 of the original price
hence the householder must consume =100/125 of original amount.
reduction=1-100/125=25/125=1/5 of the original amount=1/5*100 %=20% ans

Let original comsumption be xkg.. Now the comsumption should be 5/6 th of x... i.e 5x/6 kgs...

(20/120)*100=16.67...

Suppose 1000g buy in 100
Then new cost for 1000g is 120Rs
Now in 1 Rs-->1000/120 gm
In 100 Rs--> 1000*100/120
=833.33
So new quantity in 100 Rs 833.3
So reduction in consumption=1000-833.33=166.66gm
So % decrease in consumption 166.66*100/1000=16.66%
