since its a knockout game
so at evry round no. of players get halved
in last/8th round there were 2 players
7th round = 4 players
6th round = 8 players
5th round = 16 players
similarly going till 1st round and doubling the no. of players we get 256 player in the beginning

alternatively
no. of players = 2^8 = 256
