it will take only 2 turns, first 3 balls on a side & 3 at other side, then from heavier side put one ball at one side and 2nd ball another side. either one of them is heavier otherwise the remaining of them is heavier
So, only 2 turns

I) First weight with 3-3 each in balance, heavier 3 will be known
II)Among 3 keep 1-1 in balance,heavier can be known,if equal in weight then remaining is the heavier.

in minimum 2 ways
first make a 3 groups each having 2 balls
compare any 2 groups if there is an imbalance then you would get the heavier group else third group would be heavier

then from the heaviest group weigh the two balls....you would easily find the heaviest ball..in only two comparisons
