answer is AOSRTC,sorry for mistaken before solution I gave.
first arrange the word in alphabetical order A,C,O,R,S,T.
arrangement of letter A starting is 120 ways(A|CORST=5! WAYS) so consider next postion AC is arranged in 24 ways(AC|ORST=4! WAYS)therefore the AC starting combinations words are completed with 24th word.
similarily with A0 combinations the arrangement is completed with 48th word(AOTSRC).we want 40th word so with AOC combination we have 6 words(i.e 24+6=30 positions completed),with AOR combination we have 6 words(i.e 36 postions completed).with AOS combination we have 6 words(i.e 42 words completed) 42nd position is AOSTRC.if we fix AOSC, RT will arranged in 2 ways (i.e 38 postions completed'AOSCTR' IS 38TH WORD).Next fix AOSR, CT will be arranged in 2 ways,1way TC & another way CT.. TC is greater than CT. 39th position is AOSRCT,40th position is AOSRTC.

Arranging in alphabetical order as ACORST.
1.A_ _ _ _ _=5!=120
2.AC_ _ _ _=4!=24
3.AOC_ _ _=3!=6
4.AOR_ _ _=3!=6(36 words).
5.AOSCRT = 37th word
6.AOSCTR =38th word
7.AOSRCT =39th word
8.AOSRTC =40th word

NOW A O C ARE FIXED THEN COMBINATION IS 3!= 6

arrange words in alphabetical order
first fix A remaining place will be 5!=120 and we need to find 40th word it will definitely come auder 120 so A is fixed at first position.
similarly try for next alphabets using same criteria we will get the answer.

answer is AOSTCR,
