90 inches or 7.5 feet

let the length of each step be x,
distance of each slab is 6x. (6 steps = one slab) ...(i)

length of each step is increased by 3 inches so
distance of each step is now x+3
distance of each slab is 5(x+3) (5 steps = one slab) ... (ii)

distance of each slab from (i) and (ii) are equal

6x = 5(x+3)

x = 15...
substituting x in (i) or (ii) we get
distance of each step is 90 inches or 90/12 i.e 7.5 feet

7 1/2 Feet.
If length of each slab=x & Foot=y ,then
x/y=6 --(i) &
x/[y+(1/4)]=5 --(ii)
Solving (i) & (ii), y=1.25 ,x=7.5

Length of 1 slab = x , Length of foot = y
x = 6y and x = 5(y+3/12)
on solving we get x = 7.5,y =1.25
Ans = 7.5 feet
