let present age of person is x and his son is y
given 9 yeaars ago implies x-9=3(y-9)
now,,x=3y
solving we get x=54 years

now,,x=3y
solving we get x=54 years

Father's age is x years
eldest son age is y years
nine years ago--->x-9 = 5(y-9)
x-9 = 5y-45
now-->x=3y
substitute this in above
3y-9=5y-45
45-9=2y
y=18
x=54(father's age)

#vinay kumar. it is said that 9 years ago "my age was 5 times as my eldest son." not 3 times.
the actual solution is -
son-y;
my-x;
i) x-9=5(y-9);
ii) x=3y;

after solution x= 18

let present age of son = x
my present age = 3x
my age 9 years ago = 3x-9 ----------------------------------- a

9 years ago age of son = x-9
9 years ago my age = 5 (x-9) -------------------------------- b

equate a and b

3x - 9 = 5 (x-9)
3x - 9 = 5x - 45
36 = 2x
x=18

so my present age = 3x = 18*3 = 54

ans. 54

given that 5(x-9)=x-9
4x=36
x=9
now again saying that 3(x+9)=3(9+9)=54

assume I means x
eldest son means y
9 years ago five times as old as my eldest son means
x-9=5(y-9)->eq1
at present i am 3 times his age means
x=3y->eq2
substitute eq2 in eq1
hence 3y-9=5y-45
45-9=5y-3y
2y=36
y=18
i.e. x=3y means x=3*18=54years

let the son's age 9 year's ago be 'x'
then father's age 9 year's ago was '5x'
son's age after 9 years is=x+9
father's age after 9 years is =5x+9
at present the father's age is thrice of his son so
5x+9=3(x+9)
on solving we get x=9
so father's age is=3(x+9)=54

Let the present age of father be F and son is S .= his eldest son.... So
=>F-9=5(S-9) .......... (1)
also given that at present fathers age is 3 times the sons age ...so
=> F=3(S)......... (2)
Substitute equation (2) in equation (1) we get...
=> (3S-9)=(5S-45) .... (3)
=> S=18 ( by solving equation (3) )
Since according to problem the answer is
=> F= 3(S) ....... (from equation (1) )
=> F=3(18) = 54 (Option C)

According to me if u follow Fast ---->Present----->Future u can solve any problem from ages.
9 years ago:
Let Eldest son = x years
I = 5x
Present:
Eldest son = x+9
I = 5x+9
According to question
5x+9 = 3(x+9)
2x =27-9 => x = 9
present age of I =9*5+9 = 54 years
