The number of odd days for leap year =2 and number of odd days for ordinary year =1.
we know that Jan 26 2014 is sunday.
we have to find out number of odd days from 1950 jan 26 to 2014 jan 26 ,
2012-1952 = 60 ,so leap years in between 1950 to 2014 are 15, so ordinary years are 49. so total odd days = 15*2 + 49*1 = 79
to know the day, 79%7 =3, so 3 days after Thursday is Sunday ... so 1950 jan 26 is on Thursday.

1600 years contain 0 odd days.
100 years contains 5 odd days, so 300 years contains 5*3=15 odd days.15%7=1 odd day.
in 50 years contain 12 leap years and 38 ordinary years, so 12*2+38*1=24+38=62, 62%7=6 odd days.
1600+300+50
0+1+6=7%7=1
1 odd day nothing but monday.
