let cost price of article be x rs
then profit=x*(1/4) =x/4 & SP= x+ x/4 =5x/4

if article is sold at a profit of 1/4 of SP then new profit = 1/4 * 5x/4 = 5x/16

so 5x/16 -x/4 = 50
=> x/16 =50
=> x=800

so, cost of the article = 800 rs

let us take cost = x rupee..
selling price = 5x/4 rupee..
another condition
5x/4+1/4(5x/4) - x = 50 + x/4
if he sell 1/4 of previous selling cost he would get 50 more profit than previous profit..
on solving x = 160

let the cp=x rs. sp=(x+x/4)=5x/4rs.
another sp=(x+1/4of 5x/4)=21x/16
now21x/16-5x/4=50: x=800rs.ans

SP= x+x/4=5x/4

SP=5x/4

Let if profit be 1/4 of SP ,Then
NewSP = 1/4 * 5x/4 + x(Cost price is x)
NewSP = 5x/16 + x
NewSP = 21x/16

Now,
NewSP - SP = 50

21x/16 - 5x/4 =50
(21x-20x)/16=50
x=50*16=800

as per question,
sp=x/4
p=sp-cp
= x/4 - x
= -3x/4
again as per questn
p+50 = sp/4 - x
-3x/4+50=sp/4 - x
x/4+50 = sp/4
we knw that
cp = (100+p)sp/100
x = (150/100) (x-200)
100x = 150x - 30000
50x = 30000
x = 600
200 = x - sp
200 = 600 - sp
sp = 400

profit=s.p-c.p
s.p=c.p+profit
s.p=x+x/4=5x/4
profit=5x/4*1/4=5x/16
profit=s.p-c.p
5x/16=5x/4-x
5x/16=x/4+50

x/4=s.p-x
s.p=5x/4
5x/16 - x/4=50
x/16=50

let CP=100
sells at a profit of 1/4 of the cp, so SP=125
new SP=1/4 of the SP=156.25
new SP - SP=31.25
according to ques, if he sold at a profit of 1/4 of SP, then he gain rs.50 more i.e. new SP - SP=50
So, that difference not 31.25, it is 50 => cp is not 100, it is 160.
cp=(100*50)/31.25=160

Let the CP = 400
So profit =400/4=100
SP1 will be =500
Now,
New profit=500/4=125
So difference of profit(Given in question)=50
50=125-100(New profit-Old profit)
50=25

So, (400/25)*50=800 Ans

let 16x be the cost price 4x will be thr profit
then selling price will be 20x
20x-16x=4x
taking the 1/4 of selling price i.e. 5x
profit will be 5x
16x was the cost price 16x
21x-16x=5x
difference between the profit =x =50
16x = 800
ans the cost price is 800

let CP is 100 SP will be 100+1/4 0f 100 =125
now if SP is 100+1/4 of 125=131.5
131.5-125=6.5
if 6.5 is 50
than 100 is 800

let the cp =100
then sp=100*(5/4)=125
again, new sp =125*(5/4)=625/4
gained=625/4-125=125/4
125/4 r=50
r(ratio)=8/5
hence cp=8/5*100=160(ans)
