If a number to be divisile by 88, it shuld be divisible by both "8" nd "11"

For a number to be divisible by "8", the last 3-digit shuld be divisible by "8"
here 72x23y --> last 3-digit is 23y
So y=2 [ (ie) 232 is absolutely divisible by "8"]

For a number to be divisible by "11" , sum of odd digits - sum of even digits shuld be divisible by "11"
(7 + x + 3) - (2 + 2 + y)
(7 + x + 3) - (2 + 2 + 2)
(10 + x) - 6 shuld be divisible by "11"
So x = 11
=> 17 - 6 = 11 [ which is absolutely divisible by "11"]
So x = 7 , y= 2

Ans : x = 7 , y = 2

@Saraswathy: Your Solution 100% wrong.
1st Mistake>>>>number 72x23y, then sum of odd digits={y+2+2} and sum of even digits={3+x+7}.
My Solution:
number 72x23y is divisible by 88 means it should be divide by 8 and 11 exactly.
check for 8:
So y=2 [ (i.e) 232 is absolutely divisible by "8"]
check for 11:
For a number to be divisible by "11" , sum of odd digits - sum of even digits should be either "0" or a number divisible by "11".
so{2+2+2}-{7+x+3} should be equal to "0" or divisible by "11"
6-(10+x)
i.e x=7
now 6-17= -11 which is divisible by 11.

Answer is: x=7,y=2.

To check divisibility of a number by 8 always think only about last 3 digits.. So 23y is divisible only if y=2 So, 72x23y is divisible only for y=2 and x can be of any digit from 0 to 9.. So both 727232 and 723232 are divisible by 8.. U can even check this method using calculator ..

ans:x=3,y=2

if the no is divisible by 88 it must divisible by 8,11
if any no divisible by 8 then the last 3 digits divisible by 8

If x=7,y=2 =>727232 is only diviseble because 88*8=724 is must be greter than 723232(x=3,y=2)

x=7,y=2.
difference between sum of odd and even digits(divisibility test for 11) will help to fetch the answer.. on substituting 7 and 22.we will get the difference as 11. which is the answer
