now let a=6,g=9 then h=5

in column 1 let e=4, then y=8
then it becomes:

let us assume p such that r generates a carry because e has to be 4 in column 4

Now , add the two words as given in the question(LETTER BY LETTER)

115990 = cherry (since apple+grape = cherry)

By trial and error method::
A=6, P=8,L=7, E=4
G=3, R=5,
68874+35684=104558
Adding these digits 1+0+4+5+5+8=23
