statement two is sufficient two ans this question, as we knw for bell sound person move +20m and for gun sound he moves -20m .only 60m left to reach the target, it means 20b-20g=60, so our task to choose the value of b and g satisfy the above equation and according to second statement b+g=21 ,acc to this only b=12 and g=9 satisfying the above equation as 20*12-20*9=240-180=60.... and g:b=3:4 so first statement is insufficient to ans. in data sufficiency question ,when we are analyzing second statement ,then no need to consider statement 1 ,ANS is statement 2 is sufficient to ans his question.

person is 40m from starting point..and 60m behind target.if he wud hear 3 gun sounds...he will b at 20 m behind starting point and one bell sound he will b at starting point.even if he hears 21 such sounds.he wont reach target.thus both options are used to solve the questions

both statements are necessary because in (ii) condition we have only no of sounds so to calculate we reqire type of sound.
equation is 3G+B=21
on solving we can get final position

4 bell sounds+1 gun sound will reach him target.
and 21-5 sounds=16
so alternate bell sounds will make him to remain in same place
hence (ii)if he hears 21 bell sounds

condition 1 is false but in condition 2 all the sounds are of bell then he will reach the target

both the conditions are required.because each one form an eqtn consists of 2 variable and as we know 2 eqns are needed at least to get the value of two variables. Sonu sahoo's logic is perfectly correct but the final answer should be both i and ii are required..

ii) Statement can make him reach the target, if a person hears 9 gun shots followed by 12 bells.
* the person is 60m away from the target, and he moves 20m towards and away if he hears sound of bell and gun shot respectively.
* Hearing 9 gun shots = 9*20m = 180 m away from the target.
* Hearing 13 bells = 12*20m = 240 m towards the target. Total sounds 9+12 = 21 Sounds.
Since he was 60 m away from target, after hearing 9 gunshot and 9 bells he returns back to the same position. Now 3 more bells will do the work.

@sonu by giving 20b -20g =60 you are forcing "Bell" and "Gun" sounds to finally account to move him 60m forward. AND BOTH b+g=21 and 20b -20g =60 will give how many sounds of "gun" and "bells" are required to move him further 60m. And in question he is asking not implying that he reached the target...SO THATS ONLY ONE CONDITION...
WHAT IF ALL 21 ARE GUN BELLS????? THEREFORE ONLY 2 IS NOT SUFFICIENT

I think 2nd solution is correct. In first case he will never reach the target.
In second case by solving the equation we find that ratio is 4:3, but if bell ring consecutively then he will reach in third time, so bell should ring consecutively.
If this is case then 2nd solution will be correct
