A very simple but confusing puzzle.
A lady buys goods worth rs.200 from a shop. (shopkeeper selling the goods with zero profit).
The lady gives him 1000 rs note. The shopkeeper gets the change from the next shop and keeps 200 for himself and returns rs.800 to d lady.
Later the shopkeeper of the next shop comes with the 1000rs note saying "duplicate" and takes his money back.
"How much LOSS did the shopkeeper face ?"

ladies give shpkeepr 1000rs duplicate note n take goods of 200 rs n change of 800
so loss by shopkeeper is: 1000rs

Lady gave rs.1000 duplicate note... In that 1000 , shopkeeper got his price for goods (ie rs.200)... So he didnt incur any loss in that...
He gave rs.1000 to his neighboring shopkeeper for that duplicate currency... So that is the only loss incurred by him...(ie rs.1000)

Hence Ans : C) 1000

actually 1200.....1000 for duplicate note and 200 for retuning to next shopkeeper.
but according to the shopkeeper he LOOS nothing,because he dose not know that the 1000 rs money is duplicate.

The Actual Loss suffered by the shopkeeper selling the goods is goods worth Rs.200 only. No more.
The person who suffered the actual loss in monetary terms is the other shopkeeper who lent him change of Rs.1000 to the extent of Rs.800 given to the lady by the 1st Shopkeeper. He takes back Rs.200 remaining with the 1st shopkepper.
The lady has a profit of Rs.800 + Rs.200 worth of goods.

1200, rs 1000 note was duplicate and he gave that lady rs 200 so 1000+200=1200 he had loss.he has to returned shopkeeper rs 1000 and he gave lady rs 200

200 for his product is received - there is no loss or gain there // 800 given to lady is the amount from neigbouring shop keeper/ he gives 1000 to the neighbouring shop keeper when the later comes and asks // , so total loss on paper is 1000 -- but myanswer is G (other) - since this is an IAS question, the shopkeeper will be fined for having a counterfeit note (the person solving the question knows that :)) and he will go an arrest and fine the shopkeeper.....so final value is variable - but more than 1000

The shopkeeper was selling the commodity for Rs.200,without profit and the note the lady passes is fake,so it's like she passes a piece of paper without value.Therefore,the shopkeeper already looses Rs.200 here.Now,he borrows a change of Rs.800 from his fellow shopkeeper who,again realising that the note is fake,takes back his money.So,the total loss is Rs.(800 + 200) = Rs.1000.

2000 is the answer..
because he loose goods worth 200 and 800 return to that lady.. and gave 1000 rs back to the another shopkeeper. so overall he loose 2000.. correct me if any mistake..
