x=no of men at beginning,
y=no of women at beginning,
.06x+0.1y=600;(its 8600-8000)
x+y=8000;
solve these eqn ,
we can get x=5000;y=3000;
in the beginning there were 5000 men.

take x male then 8000-x=female
so x*106/100 + (8000-x)*110/100 =8600
by solving we get x=5000(men)

using mixtures : there is increase in 6% men and 10% women
i.e 3 : 5
therefore number of 6% mens will be: (3/8)*8000=3000
6%----> 3000
100%----> ?
therefore by cross multiplying ans is 5000.
