consider the sun to the left of the tree...so the shadow is towards the right of the tree...now it is given that the height of the tree = length of shadow...now consider a triangle..with one side to be the sun's elevation, other side to be the hypotenuse of (ht. of the tree and length of the shadow), if ht.= x , len of shadow= x, then hypotenuse = 2x^2, ..consider the right angled triangle tan t = x/x,,, therefore t= 45,,,now considering the full triangle...sun's elevation comes out to 45degrees.

When ever height of object = height of shadow.... angle of elevation is always 45 degree...

Tan30=100/x and tan45=100/x

result will be x+y=whatevr
