it will be A/2
trically:A has been divided into 4 equal parts (A/4) and in each part half is the shaded region .therefore(A/8) is area of shaded part in each quarter and there are four such quarter .Hence A/2.
logically :each side will be underroot(A).
for shadeded area it will be diagonal so shaded square side is underrrot(A/2).
square it to get A/2.

A=side^2
side=rootA/2
