Solution:
Let x is his initial salary.
After 1st decrease, x1 = x- (x*20/100) = x - x/5 = 4x/5
After 2nd decrease, x2 = 4x/5 - ((4x/5)*15/100) = 4x/5 - 3x/25 = 17x/25
After 3rd decrease, x3 = 17x/25 -((17x/25)*10/100) = 17x/25 - 17x/250 = 153x/250
So if its decreased in single shot, x - y(decreased) = 153x/250
=> y = x - 153x/250 => y = 97x/250 => y = 0.388x => y = 38.8%

If Initial salary is x, final salary is
x*0.8*0.85*0.9 = 0.615 x
reduction in salary = 0.385 x

so percentage reduction = 38.5%

let the salary be rs100
90%of 85% of 80%=(0.9*0.85*0.80)*100
=61.2 hence in single shot 100-61.2=38.8%
