French: 16
Spanish: 16
Latin:11
French and Latin (some spanish students included): 5
Spanish French and Latin: 3
Latin only: 5
Spanish only: 8

Let's first solve the problem by looking at the following above. Latin has been mentioned 4 times. That is there are 11 who wants latin, 5 who wants french and latin and 5 who wants latin only. So latin will be good enough to solve the problem. So here:
5-3=2 (latin and french only, spanish students excluded)
11-(5+2+3)=1 (spanish and latin students only, french students excluded)
16-(8+1+3)=4 (spanish and french sudents only, latin students excluded)
16-(2+3+4)=7 (french only)
So there were 7 students who chose French only for their schedule.
