Time Distance and Speed
a motor cyclist after travelling a certain distance slowed down to 3/4th of his initial speed and arrived at his destination 6 minutes late.had he slowed down to 2/3 rd of his initial speed 6 km further on,he would have reached 6 minute late.what is his initial speed?
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- 60 kmph
If s is the initial speed ,
If x is the distance travelled at reduced speed in first case, then
x/s = x/(0.75s) - 6/60
x/s = 3/10 .....(1)
in second case,
(x-6)/s = 3*(x-6)/2s - 6/60
(x-6)= s/5 ....(2)
From (1) and (2)
s= 60 kmph

- initial speed = 60 kmph
distance travelled in slow speed in first case = 18 km @ 45 kmph in 24 mins in place of 18 mins.
distance travelled in slow speed in 2nd case = 12 km @ 40 kmph in 18 mins in place of 12 mins. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(7)
