The cost of 8 dozen pencil and 2 dozen note book is 520 rupee. If cost of 3 pencil and 4 note book is 60 rupee, then sum of the cost of 1 pencil and 1 note book will be (in rupee)

cost of 2 dozen pencils are 24y
cost of 3 pencils are 3x
cost of 4 notebooks are 4y
equations are
96x + 24y = 520-----1
3x +4y = 60-----2
multiplying 6 with equation (2) and then subtracting eqn (1)-eqn (2),we get
96x + 24y = 520
18x + 24y = 360
after solving the equations,we get
x=2.05
y=13.46
cost of 1 pencil and 1 notebook is 2.05+13.46=rs 15.51

BY SUBSTITUTING EQN (1) &(2) WE GET X=24.61,Y=161.53,HERE X&Y REPRESENTS COST OF PENCIL IN DOZEN AND NOTEBOOK IN DOZEN,HENCE COST OF 1PEN IS 2.05 AND COST OF 1NOTEBOOK IS 13.46,THEREFORE SUM OF COST OF 1PENCIL AND 1NOTEBOOK IS 15.51 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)

According to the problem,
96x+24y=520---(i) [since, 1 dozen=12 qty.]
3x+4y=60-----(ii)
By solving these equations we get:
x=2.05
y=13.46
hence,x+y=15.5 ans.

putting the value of x & y on L.H.S of any equation suppose in equation-(ii)
