On day three, he travelled three quarters of the remaining distance.And yesterday he travelled one third of the remaining distance. Now he has 21 miles left to travel. How far is the total distance to be travelled?
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
"day one I travelled one quarter of the distance"
(1/4)d miles traveled
(3/4)d miles remaining
"day two, I travelled one half of the remaining distance"
(1/2)(3/4)d = (3/8)d miles traveled
(3/8)d miles remaining
"day three, I travelled three quarters of the remaining distance"
(3/4)(3/8)d = (9/32)d miles traveled
(1/4)(3/8)d = (3/32)d miles remaining
"Yesterday I travelled one third of the remaining"
(1/3)(3/32)d = (1/32)d miles traveled
(2/3)(3/32)d = (1/16)d miles remaining
"I now have 21 miles left"
(1/16)d = 21
d = 21×16 = 336 miles

- 336 miles
If total distance is x, then
x*(3/4)*(1/2)*(1/4)*(2/3) = 21
x= 336 miles - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(0)
