A person drove at an average rate of 50 miles per hour for two hours and then increased average rate by 50% for the next 3 hours.If the average rate of speed for the 5 hours was t miles per hour. What is the value of t?
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- dist traveled in 2 hrs=50*2=100
and in next ((50*50)/100)=25
so speed is 75mile per hrs
dist traveled =75*3=225
total dist=225+100=325
speed =325/5=65
65mph

- ans: 65 miles/hr
Given speed1= 50 miles/hr
Time= 2 hrs
therefore,distance= 100 miles
speed2=(speed1+50% of speed1)= 75 miles/hr
time= 3 hrs
therefore distance=225 miles
total distance=100+225=325 miles
total time=2+3=5 hrs
Average speed=(325/5)=65 miles/hr. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(2)
- t = ( 2*50 + 3*75)/ 5 = 325/5 = 65 mph
