- OK. Let there be x minutes left for 6'o'clock. Between 3 and 6, we have 180 minutes. So we can also say, that the time is now, 180-x minutes from 3.
Now the question says, 50 minutes ago from (180-x) ..........(180-x-50)
it was four times as many minutes past 3 ...........(4x)
180-x-50 = 4x
x = 26 minutes

- Solution:
present time can be 3-4 or 4-5 or 5-6
Case 1: As now number of minutes to 6 is greater than greater than 120 and number of minutes is less than 60 so no possible answer
case2:now number of minutes left is still 60+ and max number of minutes past three is 119 in this case also (4*60+) no solution
case3: in this case number of minutes left is 0 to 60 and number of minutes past 6 is 120+ so a possible solution
let's current time is 5hours x minutes then
120+x-50 = 4*(60-x)------>70+x =240-4x--->5x =170 --->x=34
so current time is 5 hours 34 minutes so minutes required to 6.00 is 24 minutes.
