- Distance police patrol travels after crossing thief = 60 kmph * 5 min = 5 km (convert time to hours)
DIsttance thief travelled after crossing police patrol = 48 kmph * 5 min = 4 km
Hence, the distance between police patrol and thief after police patrol has taken a U-turn is 5 + 4 = 9 km
Time at which they will meet = 9/(60-48) = 9/12 hours = 45 minutes
So, in 45 minutes after police patrol takes a U-turn, will it reach the thief. Adding the 5 minutes that the police patrol took after crossing the thief for the first time, will we reach the required time, i.e. After how much time after the police party crosses the thief does it catch him?
