Every day a cyclist meets a car at the station.The road is straight and both are travelling in the same direction. The cyclist travels with a speed of 12 mph.One day the cyclist comes late by 20 min. and meets the car 5miles before the Station. What is the speed of the car?

cyclist will reach at station on that day at 8:20 AM. But train will reach station at 8AM only.
and he will be at at point 5 miles before station at 7.55 AM ( i.e 25 min before 8:20 AM)
so train will take 5 mins to travel( to reach stn at 8AM) 5 miles.

I have not mixed this qn with any other qn.
According to given situation and my solution, the person will reach the station at 8.20 AM as he is late by 20 minutes, But the train will reach at station at usual time i.e. at 8.00 AM.
Bur the train and cyclist met 5 miles before station.
For reaching station at 8:20 AM, the person has to cover 5 miles after meeting time . The cyclist will cover 5 miles distance in 25 min @ 12 mph or you can say covering 1 mile in 5 minutes.
So the cyclist will meet the train 25 mins before 8:20 AM i.e 7:55 AM at a point 5 miles before station.,
Now the train will cover that 5 miles distance in 5 mins to reach station at 8:00 AM ( at normal time.)
so speed of train will be 1 mile per mi or 60 miles/hr..

- Since the cyclist travels at 12 mph, he can cover 4 miles in 20 minutes. So he was 4 miles behind where he should have been on a normal day. So when the car passed him 5 miles before the station, he should have been 4 miles ahead of that point, or only 1 mile from the station. That means, on a normal day, the cyclist can cover the final 1 mile to the station in the same amount of time it takes the car to cover the final 5 miles to the station. So the car is going 5 times as fast as the cyclist.

- let's assume that a car and man normally meets at 8 am,then usual time of cyclist
at the time of meet is 8 am. and he is 6 miles behind at 7.30 am,but when the cyclist is late,he meets at 8.20 am.therefore he six miles behind at 7.50 am.since car takes 10 minute to travel 6 miles run,so the speed of train is (6*10)
