all faces of a cube witwh an 8m edge are painted red. if the cube is cut in to smaller cube with a 2m edge how many of the 2 m cubes have painted on exactly one face

  6(n-2)^2=6[(4-2)]^2=6*4=24 cubes(ans)

• solving this que gives the ans 24, which seems correct to me, but in the solution of TCS openseesame , the correct ans is given as "48" , @nithin , i request you to explain the ans if you know the method, n if it s really 48 !

  see...we have a cube of edge 8m and small cube is of 2m so frm 1 edge we will get 4cubes ...so from one face we willhave 16 cubes...out of which 4 will be on centre...
  now as a cube has 6faces. so total CUBES PRESENT on centre(or r painted on 1 side )=6*4=24 is d answer

• @nidhi patel ..the ans which is given by TCS is wrong.If you correctly visualize that cube then you can easily fin out that ans which is 24.so 24 is the correct ans ..:)

• 48 is correct. on each face 8 cubes have exactly one face painted red(total we see 10 faces. removing corner ones from both sides since they would have 2 or 3 faces painted.) there are 6 faces. total would be 6*8
