Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age? a.2 b.5/2 c.3/2 d.1
Read Solution (Total 17)

- Let Ronit’s present age be X years. Then, father’s present age =
(X + 3X) years = 4X years.
(4X + 8) =5/2 (X + 8)
8X + 16 = 5X + 40
3X = 24
X = 8
Hence, required ratio = (4X + 16)/(X + 16)= 48/24= 2

- correct ans is 11/5 though it is nt in option ...
as father = x than son = x/3
and other equation is x+8 = 5/2(x/3+8)
so now we can find x as a 72 ..
so son age will b 24
after 16 years father 88 and son 40 the ratio will b 11/5 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(20) No(12)
- From first condition equation is F=3s..
From second condition F+2=(5/2)(S+8)
solving we get s=24 and f=72... After 8 years age will s=32 and f=80
therefore ratio= 5/2..
Answer (B) - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(17) No(19)
- Let son's age be x
Father's age = 3x
After 8 years
3x + 8 = 2.5*(x + 8)
x = 24
3x = 72
After16 years
son = 24 + 16 = 40
father = 72 + 156 = 48
48/20 = 11 / 5 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(16) No(21)
- Let x be the Son's age
then, x+3x will be the father's age as per the condition.
after 8 yrs,
x+3x+8=2.5(x+8)
therefore, x=8; // son's present age
to compute dad's present age, x+3x=8+24=32 is dad's present age
after 8 yrs,
dad : 40 son : 16 40/16=>2.5(as per d sum)
after further 8 yrs,
dad : 48 son : 22
ie, 48/22 => 2.18....
so "2" will be the ans... - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(8)
- Suppose Ronit's age be x
fathers age be 3x+x that is equal to 4x.
Now,
after 8 years 4x+8= 5/2(x+8)
solving above equation we get x=8
After further 8 years 4x+16/x+16
so putting x=8 we get 48/24 =2.
So option A) 2 is the right answer - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(2)
- @trusha-how F+2..in the prob it is given that after 8 years..so it should be F+8=5/2(S+8).. Isn't?clarify asap

- given:
consider father's age as f and son's age as x
f=3x
after 8 years
f+8=(5/2)(x+8)
by solving the above we get..
x=24
y=72
=>after 16 years
x=40
y=88
y=(11/5)(40)

- F=3R.,
Aftr 8 yrs.,.,
F+8=5/2(R+8)
2F+16=5R+16
2(3R)+16=5R+40
R=24 ROHIT
aft further 8
Rohit == 24+8=32
Father == 24*3+8=80
80/32====5/2 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(2)
- ans is 2 lets ronit age is x then father's age is 4x.
after 8 years 4x=8=5/2(x+8)
on solving x=8
as it is asked After further 8 years so ronits age is x+8+8=2
and father's age is 4x+8+8=48 hence ans is 2 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- 5/2 is the correct ans....

- dear ashima, thangamari & raj you all follow correct approach but by ur solution the ans is 5/2 please read the ques again and you definately catch ur mistake if not then ask me i wil tell you
- 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- let son's age y and father's age=x.
so x=3y
x-3y=0
aftr that 8 yrs later,x+8=5/2(y+8)
calculating them we get x=72 and y=24 aftr 8 yrs x=80 and y=32
so the father 5/2 times older than his son.option (b)

- ohh..sorry sorry...it will be 16 yrs later.so father 72+16=88 and son 24+16=40.so 11/5..

- ans father is 11/5 times to his son after 16 years..
- 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- In general by observing the question for 8 years the ratio is decreasing to 1/2 so after another 8 years it will decrease to 1/1 so the answer is possible to be 2 but by solving in normal method the answer is 5/2.
