- Ex. 4. .How many kgs. of wheat costing Rs. 8 per kg must be mixed with 86 kg of rice costing Rs. 6.40 per kg so that 20% gain may be obtained by Belling the mixture at Rs. 7.20 per kg ?
Sol. S.P. of 1 kg mixture = Rs. 7.20,Gain = 20%.
? C.P. of 1 kg mixture = Rs.[(100/120)*7.20]=Rs. 6.
By the rule of alligation, we have:
C_P. of 1 kg wheat of 1st kind C.P. of 1 kg wheat of 2nd kind
(800p) . (540 p)
Mean price
( 600 p)
60 200
Wheat of 1st kind: Wheat of 2nd kind = 60 : 200 = 3 : 10.
Let x kg of wheat of 1st kind be mixed with 36 kg of wheat of 2nd kind.
Then, 3 : 10 = x : 36 or lOx = 3 * 36 or x = 10.8 kg.

- question is wrong when we take Rs 6.40 ans comes negative but when we take Rs 5.40 i.e less then 6 we get this solution
Sol. S.P. of 1 kg mixture = Rs. 7.20,Gain = 20%.
? C.P. of 1 kg mixture = Rs.[(100/120)*7.20]=Rs. 6.
By the rule of alligation, we have:
C_P. of 1 kg wheat of 1st kind C.P. of 1 kg wheat of 2nd kind

Mean price
( 600 p)
60 200
Wheat of 1st kind: Wheat of 2nd kind = 60 : 200 = 3 : 10.
Let x kg of wheat of 1st kind be mixed with 86 kg of wheat of 2nd kind.
Then, 3 : 10 = x : 36 or lOx = 3 * 36 or x = 25.8 kg - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(1)
- correct Q is......
How many kgs. of wheat costing Rs. 8 per kg must be mixed with 86 kg of rice costing Rs. 6.40 per kg so that 20% gain may be obtained by Selling the mixture at Rs. 7.20 per kg ?

- x kg of wheat costs =x*8=8x rs
a/c to q,
total cost price of wheat and rice=8x+(86*6.40)
sp of mixture so that 20% gain can be achieved=(x kg wheat+86kg rice)*7.20
therefore frm d q,
cp+20%of cp=sp with 20% gain
(8x+86*6.40)+(20/100(8x+86*6.40))=(x+86)*7.20
=>(8x+550.4)(1+20/100)=7.2x+610.2
=>(8x+550.4)*1.2=7.2x+610.2
=>9.6x +660.48=7.2x+610.2
=>2.4x=-50.28
=>x=-20.95
clearly x cannot be negative.So q is wrong
correct q shud be .....so that 20%loss is obtained... - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- Selling Price(SP) of 1 Kg mixture= Rs. 7.20/kg
Profit = 20%
Cost Price(CP) of 1 Kg mixture= 100/(100+Profit%)×SP=100/(100+20)×7.20=100/120×7.20=72/12=Rs.6
By the rule of alligation, we have
CP of 1 kg wheat of 1st kind CP of 1 kg wheat of 2nd kind
Rs. 8 Rs. 6.40
Mean Price
Rs.6(CP)
6.4 - 6 = 0.4 8 - 6 = 2
ie, to get a cost price of 6, the wheat of kind1 and kind2 should be mixed in the
ratio 0.4 : 2 = 4 : 20 = 1 : 5
Let x Kg of kind1 wheat is mixed with 86 kg of kind2 wheat
then x : 86 = 1 : 5
x/86=1/5
x=86/5
x=17.2kgs of wheat must be mixed..... - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
