Profit and Loss
A Grocer bought 24 kg coffee beans at price X per kg. After a while one third of stock got spoiled so he sold the rest for $200 per kg and made a total profit of twice the cost. What must be the price of X?
A. $33 1/3 B. 66 2/3 C.44 4/9 D.50 1/3
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- ans: C. 44 4/9
cost price= 24*X $,
spoiled= 24*1/3=8 kg, now total amount= (24-8)=16 kg
selling price= 16*200$ =3200$
profit= (3200-24*X)
profit=2* cost , (3200-24*X)= 2*24*X, x=44 4/9

- c.p=24X
Profit= 2c.p= 48X
spoiled stock= (1/8)24=8kg
s.p= 24-8 =16,16 x 200 $
so prfoit= s.p -c.p
48X = (16 x 200)- 24 X
24 X= 32000/48 = 44 4/9 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(17) No(4)
C.P. = 24x
spoiled = 24*1/3 ==> 8kg
remain,. 16kg he sold at 200/kg
S.P. = 16*200 ==> 3200
and earn profit twice the C.P.
So, CP == 1600
24x=1600
x=1600/24
x=66 2/3
-------------
tally
x=66.666
CP==24x
= 24*66.6666
= 1600 which is 1/2 of profit- 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(5)
- Total Cost price = 24 * x
As 1/3rd of the beans spoiled, remaining beans are 1/3 (24) = 8kgs
so the remainig stock is 24-8=16
Selling price = 200 *16 = 3200
Profit = Selling price - Cost price = 3200 - 24 X
Given Profit = 2 Cost price
3200 - 24 X = 2 (24 X)
Solving X = 44.44 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- total c.p=24X; (1/3)*24=8;
so,16*200=72X; we have given profit=twice of total c.p
X=44.44; - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
